Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:

  1. Understand models of school counseling programs
  2. Understand models of P-12 comprehensive career development
  3. Understand models of school-based collaboration and consultation
  4. Use assessments specific to P-12 education
  5. Understand their roles as leaders, advocates, and systems change agents in P-12 schools
  6. Understand their roles and responsibilities in relation to the school emergency management plans, and crises, disasters, and trauma
  7. Advocate for school counseling roles
  8. Understand characteristics, risk factors, and warning signs of students at risk for mental health and behavioral disorders
  9. Understand legal and ethical considerations specific to school counseling
  10. Design and evaluate school counseling programs
  11. Engage in core curriculum design, lesson plan development, classroom management strategies, and differentiated instructional strategies
  12. Use interventions to promote academic development
  13. Use developmentally appropriate career counseling interventions and assessments
  14. Use techniques of personal/social counseling in school settings
  15. Use skills to critically examine the connections between social, familial, emotional, and behavior problems and academic achievement
  16. Use interventions to promote college and career readiness
  17. Use strategies to promote equity in student achievement and college access
  18. Use of data to advocate for programs and students
