Description
Psychology is the science of behavior. It covers the behavior of humans and animals, normal and abnormal behavior, and behavior across the life span. The field is concerned both with the development of principles of behavior and with their application to individuals, society and the institutions of government, business, and mental health.
Admission to the Program
Any undergraduate student can declare this minor.
Program Requirements
A minor in Psychology consists of 18 credits in the discipline, nine of which must be upper-division (PSH 300-499). At least nine PSH credits must be completed at Brockport. A Brockport Psychology GPA of 2.0 is required in order to graduate with a minor in Psychology.
Required Core Courses (6 credits)
- PSH110 Principles of Psychology
- PSH202 Introductory Statistics for Psychology or an approved course from another discipline (ECN204, PBH488, MTH243, SOC200)
Group A Course (3 credits)

- PSH341 Biopsychology
- PSH351 Cognitive Processes
- PSH352 Sensation and Perception
Group B Course (3 credits)
Choose ONE of the following:
- PSH331 Personality
- PSH332 Social Psychology
- PSH334 Abnormal Psychology
- PSH384 Child Psychology
- PSH484 Adolescence
- PSH486 Psychological Disorders of Children
Elective Psychology Credits (6 credits)
Two additional courses from Psychology course offerings, which can include additional courses from either category above. Since 18 Psychology credits are required, if a student elects to take a statistics course other than PSH202, then that student shall take an additional psychology elective.
